FNQYAF helping our local youth to achieve!
February 2011: The Far North Queensland Youth Assistance Fund (FNQYAF) is an organisation that supports local youth. This year FNQYAF conducted its 39th Annual Presentation of Awards for youth achievers in our region, including two young women from Mount Sheridan.
Megan Hoh who is studying 2nd year Bachelor of Commerce at the University of NSW in Sydney was assisted with $1,000 from the Tom Pyne Testimonial Fund.
Danielle Robert was also assisted with $2,500.00 from the fund.
Danielle is studying 1st year Bachelor of Biomedical Science at JCU in Townsville.
At the presentations, held at Cairns Regional Council, the FNQYAF has distributed a total of $68,600.00 to 38 worthy recipients.
These scholarships have been provided from existing Special Funds that have been established and administered by our FNQYAF. The sole purpose of these funds is financially assisting young people to achieve their goals in their chosen fields.
FNQYAF President Ken Harris said that whilst the Annual presentation in January is the major function each year, the Fund receives applications and distributes grants throughout the year.
In addition to the scholarships presented today, the FNQYAF has already presented $20,199.21 to assist eligible applicants with their sporting and schooling requirements.
Mr Harris urges young Far North Queenslanders, who need financial assistance to further their studies or to further their achievements in sport or the arts, to contact Debbie Wood on 40516590.
