RE: Letter to the Editor
It is concerning to hear that some within the LNP are calling to go back to public consultation regarding the proposed Bruce Highway Upgrade. The political games played with this issue have been distasteful in the extreme, including stories of some prominent properties being resumed, when this was clearly not the intention of the state.
Of the small number of people who are having their property resumed, most have been treated fairly. Those who have been left in limbo are small in number and it is hoped they will not be further disadvantaged by any ongoing delays regarding this project.
I had hoped this issue was now beyond politics and all stakeholders were committed to the project moving ahead. Even Warren Entsch has now accepted the public benefit in proceeding, at least in regards to stage one.
The state government is not without blame on this issue. Here we are in 2011, after a decade of studying this relatively short 14 kilometres of road, still waiting for construction to commence. The population growth in our southern suburbs can hardly have come as a surprise to those in government.
It could be people have been misquoted or perhaps they have simply confused their C words, but your readers on the Southside can certainly testify that what is needed now is not Consultation, but Construction!
