Woree Students With Disabilities get a Hand from Council.

A donation from Cairns Regional Council will help a group of Woree students with disabilities to shine on the sporting field.

A team of 20 students with disabilities from Woree State High School’s Special Education Program are bound for the FNQ Sports and Athletics Carnival for Students with Disabilities in Townsville.

Mayor Val Schier has used her Mayor’s Community Fund to donate $500 to the three-day trip.

“Many of these students have never had the opportunity to attend a school camp,” Cr Schier said.

“I’ve been told that the trip will not only allow these students to compete in a range of sports suited to their various abilities, but will help participants to develop independence and life skills.

“Students will also have the chance to socialise with peers from throughout Far North Queensland.”

Students will compete in Townsville from July 27 to 29.

Cr Schier presented a cheque to students of Woree State High School today at the school.
