Mike ‘Locco’ O’Loughlin Swaps Microphone for Door-knocker!
Locco–a familiar voice to many local radio listeners–said: “after countless heated discussions on local issues with friends and family it was a case of ‘put up, or shut up’, so I nominated.”
He said recent door-knocking throughout Division 5 suburbs, such as Manoora, Westcourt, Portsmith and the CBD, had crystallised his views on a range of issues affecting these areas.
“I’m running a very straightforward campaign, and my focus is to bring the community back to council,” Locco said.
“I’ve listened to residents and businesses talk about issues from street and home security, drainage and rates, and I’m keen to ensure their concerns are heard by Council,” he said.
Locco said he would focus on ensuring safety and security throughout Division 5, improved drainage maintenance as well as opportunities for small businesses.
“I think we can support tourism and small businesses by encouraging RV campers into Cairns, and I’d also like to stimulate Esplanade business by investigating evening closures to traffic.”
“I have a lot of ideas, but for the record we need an accountable and affordable Cairns Entertainment Precinct, as well as a reintroduction of the early payment rates discount.”
