The Village on Esplanade is a set of three tents including The Pavilion, which is a space open for community submissions until
July 30.

The Village co-organiser Lisa Christiensen said the area was part of an activated space open to diversity.

“We would like to throw it open to local events, cultural organisations, community groups, sustainable living, panels, discussions and presentations, to showcase community happenings and celebrate our wonderful diversity for all ages and all cultures,” she said.

“If people want to promote what they’re doing to the public it’s an excellent opportunity to do that and it’s a unique way to be involved with the Cairns Festival.”

Professional photographer and Heyday Festival Exhibition co-ordinator Rebecca Edwards will use the space to conduct night photography workshops.

“Its an interesting venue and there are so many options for photographs – it will be a bustling area,” she said.

8Cairns Festival runs from August 17 to September 2. For details, visit http://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/festival
