It’s official – Gordonvale’s Trish is a library favourite!
The public has spoken – Queensland’s favourite librarian is none other than Gordonvale Library’s Trish Richards.
The competition, run by the Australian Library Information Association (ALIA), invited library users to nominate their favourite staff members. An online public vote was then taken to determine the top contenders.
While she missed out on the national title, Trish was thrilled to be named in the state’s top spot.
“It was fantastic just to be nominated so the win was a bit of a shock,” the mum of two said.
“I’m lucky to be in a job I love and where I can inspire other people to enjoy reading as much as I do. A huge thank you for all the wonderful comments and support from library customers and colleagues.”
“I know most of the families and have the opportunity to build a rapport with them,” she said. “I love seeing children pick up a book and really enjoy reading it and then watching their love of books develop as they get older.
“I feel like I’m contributing something positive to their lives that will stay with them as they grow up.”
Mayor Bob Manning and Council CEO Peter Tabulo have joined in the chorus of congratulations.
“It’s people like Trish who give that little bit extra to really contribute to the community. Her award is very much deserved,” Cr Manning said.
Mr Tabulo added, “This award is representative of the quality of service that exists in all Cairns Libraries branches. I congratulate Trish on this fantastic achievement and extend that sentiment to all libraries staff.”
