Cairns asked to nominate an outstanding woman!
Less than two weeks remain to nominate an outstanding local woman to be recognised on International Women’s Day.
International Women’s Day is celebrated each year on March 8 and aims to recognise women and their achievements worldwide.
The Cairns Regional Council’s Woman of the Year and Young Woman of the Year Awards celebrate the achievements of local women in enriching the lives of other women and girls.
“She is just one of the unsung heroes whom these awards have uncovered over the years. We are now calling on residents to help us uncover one more.”
Ms Hicks will be one of two guest speakers at Council’s International Women’s Day Breakfast, during which this year’s awards will be presented.
She will be joined by James Cook University’s Dr India Bohanna, who has conducted extensive research into the areas of mental health and brain injury.
The breakfast will be held at the Shangri-La Cairns on Saturday 8 March from 7.30am. Tickets are available now from TicketLink at a cost of $35 including hot breakfast.
Nominations for the Woman of the Year and Young Woman of the Year (Under 25), pick up a nomination form from Cairns Regional Council’s customer service centres or Cairns Libraries branches or download from Council’s website (www.cairns.qld.gov.au). Nominations close on Friday 21 February.
