Cairns Feast for the tastebuds at RAW – Farmers Market!

Fruit, nuts, coffee, plants, dairy – the agricultural industry adds about $850million to the Far North economy each year. To celebrate our amazing produce, Cairns Festival will stage its inaugural RAW – Farmers Market on Saturday 6 September with a wide range of award-winning produce and cooking demonstrations to get you inspired.


From 9am the Pier Shopping Centre will be transformed into a bustling indoor market, brimming with produce and products grown and manufactured in the Cairns region.

Chairman of the Community Services Committee Cr Max O’Halloran says RAW – Farmers Market is a chance to not only try and buy local goods but speak directly to the people who grow and create amazing tastes of the tropics.

One of these producers is Cairns’ George Gonthier, behind Daintree Vanilla and Spice, who recently took out the ABC delicious Produce Award 2014 in the “from the earth” category. The Gonthiers literally started their award-winning business by planting vanilla in their backyard. Before long they purchase land at Cow Bay and expanded into other spices.

Rainforest Bounty, which produces gourmet condiments, is another success story, having picked up silver and bronze respectively at prestigious Sydney and Melbourne food shows.
